Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12th November, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej or now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first gymnast to earn a 10. a competition at the Olympics. Bela Karrolyi who was the Romanian gymnastics trainer who would become Comaneci's coach later in life found her around the age of six. Comaneci participated for the first time at the national junior championships and finished 13th. In the following year, she became champion. At her first international event in a preolympics junior competition for countries in the Communist bloc, she was awarded three gold medals. In 1973 and 1975, she won awarded the All-around Junior Champion. In 1975, she took home four golds and one silver in her first senior international competition. Lyudmila Torishcheva was a five-time European champion. In 1976, she was the world's first woman who used a double backwards salto to dismount from the parallel bars.
