Laura Linney has been hailed as one of America's most popular actors. Her fame is for playing strong characters who are also vulnerable. Her father was a renowned playwright, but Linney was raised as an all-only child with a single mother who was a nurse. During the summers, while with her dad Linney discovered a love for theater. Linney eventually pursued acting initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Her career began on Broadway following her graduation, she debuted in films within two years and on television within a year. Her appearances have been on a variety of shows on stage, television and film shows since that time. She has been nominated for three Tony Awards, three Academy Awards, five Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), as well as received numerous awards over her professional career. However, in spite of the array of awards the theatre is still her primary passion and she has continued to appear both on stage and screen.
